I just got initiated... Now what?

2004-06-15

First of all, congratulate yourself with the nice gift you have given yourself. Reiki is a gift just for you. Yes, you can help others with it, but you can enjoy it.

Often when you just start with Reiki, you will feel insecure about it. Don't sweat it, it's perfectly normal. As with anything in life, if you are uncertain, follow your feelings or go and talk to someone about what you are going through. Another thing to do (when it concerns people you are using your newly acquired skills on) is to think how you would feel in the exact same situation.

If you experience Reiki different than other people, don't worry. It can feel different from person to person. You can even experience differences when using Reiki on different people and their experience can differ quite a bit from yours. But if you can find someone who can talk you through what they are feeling when you treat them, you can learn quite a lot and build up confidence.

In every case it might be interesting to keep a diary of what you experience. It can show you the changes you experienced along the way and might give you clues on how to interpret the feelings you get during the treatments.

Not everyone might have heard this, but after the initiations, you will enter the cleansing period. During this 21-day period (might be a bit longer or shorter), you might experience old fears or behavioural patterns breaking down. It can feel like an enormous happiness or you could be struggling with your life. Whatever happens, you are usually shown who you are. During this period, keeping a diary might be even more useful. Tiny things might shift and keeping a diary might help you notice these things.

Also a note of slight warning... Things like alcohol and drugs usually have a stronger effect during this period. Reiki usually makes the effect of toxics on the body stronger, but it also breaks it down more efficiently. So be sure to keep an eye on yourself.
